What Sheffield United's proposed £10m swoop for Bournemouth striker actually means for Swansea City and Oli McBurnie

Sheffield United are closing in on a £10m deal to sign Lys Mousset from Bournemouth.

Chris Wilder's side have been hugely active in the market since gaining promotion into the Premier League, signing the likes of Phil Jagielka, Luke Freeman, Ravel Morrison as well as striker Callum Robinson.

And it appears they are edging closer to taking Frenchman Mousset to Bramall Lane this summer while they have also been strongly linked with Brentford star Neal Maupay.

However, The Sheffield Star report that the potential deal for the Bournemouth frontman will not mean the end for their pursuit of Swansea City's Oli McBurnie.

The Blades had a £15m bid for the Scottish forward rejected by Swansea earlier this week.

Wilder is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old centre forward and could yet make another offer in a bid to secure his services.

After featuring for the Swans in a 6-1 pre-season win over Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Tuesday night, McBurnie admitted he was "flattered" by the interest shown in him.

"It's out of my hands really, that's the club's decision," said the striker on a potential switch to South Yorkshire.

"Those two (clubs) will speak about that, it's for people way above my pay grade to talk about, I just get on with the football, it is what it is.

"It's flattering because it means you're doing something right, getting attention from clubs like that.

"But everyone who knows me knows I'll keep my focus on the pitch and my head in the football. I won't let my head turn and I'll get on with things."

Swansea remain determined to keep hold of McBurnie, who netted 24 goals in all competitions under Graham Potter last season.

But chairman Trevor Birch did concede that the Swans may have to sell McBurnie - and potentially other prized assets - if a "knockout" offer is received.

McBurnie has featured in all three of the Swans' pre-season fixtures against Mansfield Town, Crawley Town and most recently Yeovil.
