What Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie told the referee after Manchester United goal and VAR call

Sheffield United forward Oli McBurnie has revealed what he told referee Andre Marriner after his last-gasp goal against Manchester United was given following a VAR review.

In a topsy-turvy game at Bramall Lane, the Blades looked set to pile more away-day misery on United when goals from John Fleck and Lys Mousset handed the hosts a 2-0 lead.

But three quick-fire goals from Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford completed the turnaround for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

But McBurnie's 90th-minute equaliser rescued Chris Wilder’s side a point, with the goal being given following a VAR review for handball.

And McBurnie, speaking to Sky Sports post-match, opened up on how he told Marriner the awarding of the goal was “never in doubt”.

"I said to the referee it was never in doubt,” the former Swansea man said. “The boys were scared it had touched my hand but I knew it was never in doubt.

"The boys grafted unbelievably today. When we are at our best we can compete with the best teams with the world.

“We need to be on it for the full 90 minutes. The no fear attitude comes from the gaffer and the boys.

“The boys have this never give up attitude and it’s so important. People don’t like coming here."
