What Sergio Reguilon has said about Real Madrid return amid Tottenham transfer rumours

Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon has previously admitted that a return to Real Madrid would be ‘nice’ amid links with the Spanish giants.

The left-back only joined Spurs in a £28million deal last summer and he has since gone on to impress in north London.

Previously a key cog of Sevilla’s Europa League winning side, Reguilon has made 45 appearances in all competitions for the north London club and provided seven assists.

He has a contract until the summer of 2025, but an exit could apparently be set to be even sooner.

As per Spanish outlet Defensa Central, it is suggested that Real Madrid are attempting to negotiate the buy-back clause that was originally slotted into the deal to take him to Spurs down from the €40million (£33.9million) price should they choose to activate the clause next summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants will be successful in such talks - or indeed Reguilon would be interested in a switch back to his homeland - but the defender himself has previously admitted that becoming a Real Madrid player once more has crossed his mind.

In an interview with AS back in December 2020, he said: "I do not know. Whenever they ask me about Madrid I say that it has given me everything, it has always been my home.

"Come back one day? It doesn't depend on me… I'm focused on my thing, but it would be nice."

Should Reguilon complete a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu, he would certainly not be the first player to do so.

Dani Caravajal spent a year with German giants Bayer Leverkusen before he was a Real player once more, whilst ex-Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata also had two spells with the Spanish giants either side of a switch to Juventus - although he has since returned to Turin on-loan from Atletico Madrid.
