What Serge Aurier did to help Everton star Andre Gomes after his injury against Tottenham

Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier has revealed that he has sent messages to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes as he continues his rehabilitation from a horror injury sustained against Spurs earlier in the season.

The 26-year-old suffered fracture dislocation of his right ankle during the Premier League game against Tottenham back in November.

A challenge by Heung-min Son saw the midfielder collide with Aurier to cause the injury that will see him spend an extended time on the sidelines. Son was shown red for the challenge, but that was later overturned by the FA.

Gomes returned to Everton's training ground this week to continue his rehabilitation and undergo an individual training plan in order to get back to fitness.

Upon the news of the midfielder stepping up his recovery, Aurier spoke about the gesture to his fellow professional.

"Oh, ok. He’s back. Wow. Good news. I sent him a message I think last week and he said he’s ok," Aurier told The Telegraph .

"I’ve been sending him some messages. After he replied to the first message I wrote, I sent him some more.

Aurier also gave the reasons for the gesture.

"That day it was him, but tomorrow maybe it’s me or another player, so we need to give support because it was a very difficult moment," he added.

"I remember this moment and I was not comfortable when I got back to my house after the game because it was a bad situation. So I am happy for him now because he’s back in the gym and on his way back to the pitch."

No return date is yet set for Gomes, but the midfielder is expected to still be out for a extended period.
