What Scott McTominay did with Jose Mourinho at full-time after Man United's draw at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho's role in Scott McTominay's Manchester United rise is well documented.

Appointed as Louis van Gaal's successor at Old Trafford ahead of the 2016/17 season, it was at the end of the campaign when the talented midfielder made his first appearance for the Red Devils.

Mourinho continued to use the youngster the following season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now benefiting as the 23-year-old is a regular for the Red Devils in the middle of the park.

McTominay started last Friday in his side's 1-1 draw at Tottenham and he played a key role as they came away with a point courtesy of Bruno Fernandes' late penalty.

Substituted one minute from time as Eric Bailly replaced him, the Scotland international was straight back on the pitch after the full-time whistle as he made a beeline for his former boss.

With players and management bumping fists instead of the usual handshake due to the coronavirus pandemic, McTominay came over and instead gave the Tottenham head coach a hug.

Given the big role he's played in his career so far, the academy graduate was clearly keen to catch up with Mourinho after the game.

With Mourinho stating that McTominay is "only the best player at Manchester United" in December, the midfielder even revealed a few months earlier that he still keeps in contact with his former boss.

"Jose is very special to me," he told Sky Sports News. "He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch after some games.

"He'll always have a special place in mine and my family's heart because he's the one who brought you in, he was the one who trusted you, he was the one who had belief in you.

"I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him because if it wasn't for him I might not necessarily be sitting in this seat."
