What Scotland fans are saying about Steve Clarke's team selection and the one big talking-point

Scotland fans have been reacting to Steve Clarke's team selection – and having their say on the one big talking point.

News that Clarke had chosen four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers had many hoping that we'd see a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

However it might not be as straight-forward as that.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has turned out at centre-back for Scotland in recent matches, and it hasn't quite gone to plan.

Fans are fearing we might see the same again in what could be a 3-5-2 system with wing-backs.

Here's what a number of Scotland supporters have been saying on social media.

"McTominay better not be anywhere near that defence" - @declan_bellany

"If McTominay is at center back again I'm just gonna not watch and get drunk instead to ease the pain" - @robertodev

"Looks more balanced than last few games - hope to god McTominay isn’t asked to play in defence again" - @Toddster_67

"As a fan of McTominay I really am at a loss as to the obsession Clarke has for playing him at the back? Seems like he’s just doing it to fit people in? This team scares me" - @bazzio14

"Why is McTominay in defence he's one of our best midfielders he's not a defender" - @CalumMclean1990

"Happy with that lineup, only concern would be McTominay centre half again. Need a massive performance from everyone" - @JamieHughes6

Away from the McTominay issue, some fans were pleased to see two start up front.

"McBurnie and Dykes together could be excellent if we can get crosses in the box" - @steven_carrie

However, others were less enthusiastic.

"Wits the point in playing two target men if you don’t play any wingers to cross them the baw ahahahah" - @ethanweiro

Scotland XI: Marshall, O'Donnell, Gallagher, Cooper, Robertson, McTominay, Jack, McGinn, McGregor, Dykes, McBurnie.

Subs: McLaughlin, McCrorie, Paterson, McLean, Porteous, Fleck, Fraser, Taylor, Shankland.
