What's your message to Donald Trump as he arrives in Scotland? We asked Glaswegians

AS Donald Trump gets ready for his trip over the pond to his ancestral homeland, we asked Glaswegians what they would say to the US president.

To welcome him, several made their feelings against and for the president clear.

"He's a prick, man" and "I hate him" were from the people who were happy to go on camera, others who weren't told me: "I could stand here all day going on about him. I hate that man."

Just like Lewis locals, Glaswegians are polarised by Trump.

"I would like to welcome him here to Scotland, as a Scot with Scottish heritage. I hope he enjoys his time here," one man told me. Another man overheard our conversation and said those who are for Trump, as he was, are silenced by media and so the true level of support for the president is never accurately captured.

He didn't want to go on camera.

"I feel like what he's been doing in America with just breaking down the rule of law, just this tyranny, and authoritarianism, it just isn't welcome in our country," another man said.

He added: "Especially with the rise of Reform and stuff, it's just not welcome at all."

A young woman was surprised to learn Trump was coming, asking: "Get him out. Why is he coming? Why are we allowing him?"

She added: "I hate Donald trump. I don't know why people would vote for him. The tariffs, everything. He's taking ... the abortions, obviously."

Another woman speaking directly to Trump said: "So Donald, just stop the crap. Stop bothering other countries, stop bothering women, stop bothering minorities.

"Just grow up.

"Get your head out of your ass, and leave people alone. Stop thinking about yourself.

"Go golfing for the rest of your time, and just leave the thinking up to the adults."

So, there's the verdict. No matter where you are in the world. people will either love or loathe the man.

But as his approval rating dips to 37% — the lowest of this term and just slightly higher than his all-time worst rating of 34% at the end of his first term —it's looking more like the majority are in the latter category.
