What's wrong with Curtis on Corrie? Health condition explained as he collapses

Coronation Street aired a worrying twist for newcomer Curtis Delamere earlier this year, but what is wrong with him, and will he die?

Curtis and Emma Brooker soon became an item after an instant attraction, but it was clear he was hiding something from her.

His sudden disappearences and mystery phone calls led to Emma wrongly believing he was cheating on her.

But there was a devastating truth to his behaviour, and he confirmed to Emma's dad, and eventually Emma, that had a life-threatening health condition.

He revealed he had a heart condition and said he could drop down dead at any moment, but what are the details? Here is all you need to know...

Coronation Street aired a worrying twist for newcomer Curtis Delamere earlier this year (ITV)

Who is Curtis on Corrie?

Curtis Delamere is a new character on the ITV soap, and he is the boyfriend of Emma Brooker.

His family are not in Weatherfield, and he works at The Bistro after his arrival in May.

The character is played by actor Sam Retford, who has starred in other TV shows including Channel 4's Ackley Bridge.

What is wrong with Curtis?

Curtis' exact health condition is not known as he has not been diagnosed (ITV)

Curtis' exact health condition is not known as he has not been diagnosed, while he does know that he has a heart condition.

Curtis visited a cardiologist in recent scenes in July, with him soon revealing he'd had a health condition since his teens, and that he had suffered two collapses. It's not known if he has had the condition for longer.

The newcomer shared details of a horror collapse when he was just 15 years old, when his heart stopped while he was playing rugby.

He also sadly revealed his father had died from a similar condition, with him diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).

HCM, according to the NHS website, is where "the heart muscle cells enlarge and the walls of the heart chambers thicken".

They add: "The heart chambers are reduced in size so they cannot hold much blood, and the walls cannot relax properly and may stiffen. Also, the flow of blood through the heart may be obstructed."

But while doctors first believed Curtis had the condition too, they were left unsure when Curtis presented with other symptoms that aren't linked to HCM.

Now, they remain clueless over his exact diagnosis, and therefore do not know how to treat his life-threatening condition.

Does Curtis die on Corrie?

It's not known what the future holds for Curtis, as doctors do not know if his condition is treatable (ITV)

It's not known what the future holds for Curtis, as doctors do not know if his condition is treatable as the exact details remain a mystery.

It doesn't seem for now that the ITV soap are planning to kill the character off, so it's hoped Curtis will be okay.

There will no doubt be more to the scenes, and hopefully a full diagnosis so that Curtis can find a way to manage his condition.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
