What's trending and happening this week.

1 Bangkok has been bombarded with an amazing line-up of concerts this year, and for any rockers out there, American industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails (NIN) will be bringing their explosive set to Bangkok on Aug 14 at Lat Phrao's Moonstar Studio. Known for their dark, intense and ferocious music like The Hand That Feeds, Only and Survivalism, the band has won two Grammy's for Best Metal Performance and have sold over 30 million records worldwide. Their live concerts are hailed as a "musical, visual, emotional sensory onslaught" -- and with sold out stadiums in Paris, London, Amsterdam and Las Vegas, fans in Bangkok shouldn't hesitate to buy tickets. Tuesday, Aug 14 at 7pm Moonstar Studio. Ticket price: 3,000 baht. Available for purchase at www.ticketmelon.com/event/NIN.

2 Those looking for a more relaxed, soulful and precious concert should check out Tom Misch's live performance on Aug 25, again at Moonstar Studio. At only 23 years old, the London-based producer, singer and songwriter has won the hearts of millions with his smooth voice and soulful beats. Part of a new generation of musicians who blend in multiple genres like jazz, hip-hop and R&B to create a new and perfect mix of pop, Tom Misch can easily be considered the new next big thing in the music industry. Saturday, Aug 25 at 7pm, Moonstar Studio. Ticket price: 1,800 baht. Available for purchase at www.ticketmelon.com/event/tommisch.

Trumpeter Ianniello and pianist Tombolesi will be performing a set dedicated to women composers of Italian jazz -- namely historical composer, harpsichordist and soprano Francesca Caccini, and composer and soprano Barbara Strozzi. Friday, 8pm, The Living Room, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

5 With the world now littered with an ungodly amount of plastic, IKEA has announced that it will be committing to remove all single-use plastic products by Jan 1, 2020. Recognising that single-use plastics have had a detrimental impact on the environment and wildlife, products like plastic straws, plates, cups, freezer bags, garbage bags and plastic-coated paper plates and cups will be removed from their shelves. Aiming to be climate positive by 2030, the company will soon be designing all their products with circular principles (using only renewable and recycled materials), pack products in renewable or recycled materials, phase out virgin fossil plastic from products, and increase plant-based foods in their restaurants. For now, everyone can do their part by reducing their use of plastic as much as possible.
