What's the weather forecast for Easter?

While hopes for a long weekend away over the actual Easter weekend might be dashed, there might still be a chance to get away over the holidays, restrictions permitting.

But what will the weather be like over Easter? And how will this impact any planned staycations?

Well the good news is that there’s likely to be some sun with temperatures slightly higher than average, but only in certain areas.

The bad news is that characteristically for this time of year, there’s also likely to be some of those pesky April showers.

But when have us Brits let a bit of rain stop us?

Easter week itself is looking like it could be stormy one.

Tyler Roys, Senior Meteorologist at AccuWeather, said: "There is the potential for this to be a stormy week with Northern Ireland into western Scotland seeing the best chances to see the highest amounts of rainfall. The rest of the United Kingdom will be around normal, largely coming from either widespread showers or from a period of rain.

"Given the stormy potential, temperatures look overall at this point for the period to be around normal for that time of the year (which ranges from 8/9C-12/13C for max temperatures).

"What will probably happen is ahead of and during the storm, a southwesterly or southerly flow will lead to temperatures reaching above normal and once the storm passes, temperatures coming back down, almost like a tail of two cities."

The South, Midlands and Wales seem like a good place for a staycation, restrictions allowing of course. Temperatures in these parts of the country are significantly higher than those further north.

It’s strangely not uncommon to see snow during April but while forecasts are not showing any inkling of the white stuff down south, up north is a different story. It’s likely that showers could turn into sleet and even snow, according to predictions from The Weather Outlook

Although Easter will have been and gone, the latter part of the month is where things start to improve with temperatures reaching the mid to high teens.

Wales typically sees some of the high temperatures during this time but equally, the South is also looking quite nice.

Drier spells are also expected during the latter part of April.
