'What's the point of going then?' Toby Carvery fans left disappointed by big change

Hundreds of bars and restaurants are due to reopen their doors this weekend with many making changes to ensure they meet the Government's "covid-secure" guidelines.

Among those restaurants is Toby Carvery which has sites across the UK and many across Merseyside.

Over the weekend, its team took to their Facebook page to announce reopening plans and revealed the one big change customers can expect - there will be no longer the self-serve option.

The post read: "This time next week you'll be able to get your Toby fix if you’re near to one of our restaurants in England.

"You'll still be able to enjoy your favourite roast just the way you like it, with our chefs serving the roast meats, vegetables and accompaniments - with as much or as little as you’d like."

Toby Carvery has changed its rules in line with government guidance, which says that restaurants are no longer able to offer self-service to customers.

But despite it being a government ruling, some people still aren't happy with how the carvery restaurant will now operate, reports Hull Live.

On Facebook, one user said: "You can keep your food. If we can’t help ourselves I’d rather cook my own."

Another said: "What does it matter who serves up your veg on a plate if you have used the hand sanitiser as soon as you have walked in the door??? Forget it."

A third added: "They'll soon change that when nobody bothers going. That's what you do at a carvery."

A fourth said: "That's half the fun. Seeing how much you can load onto a plate and discussing the best tactics to use. And for that reason...I'm out."

And a fifth added: "What's the point of going then? The plates were getting smaller anyway so you're going to get less even more, but more money. I can do at home."

However, there were some fans looking forward to its return.

One Facebook user said: "I am losing my mind without Toby's.

"I heard you all were opening up soon and it brightened up my entire year. I am looking forward to the yorkies more than anything else in my life! See you soon Toby!"

You can now book a table at Toby Carvery on its website here. The maximum number on a single booking will be six people.
