Newcomers Podemos and Ciudadanos will play a crucial role in upcoming coalition talks as the ruling People’s party (PP) won the most seats in Sunday’s general election but fell short of a clear majority.
Having secured only 129 seats out of the 50-seat legislature, PP will have to reach out to other parties to be able to govern. An alternative would be a coalition government between the Socialists, Podemos and Ciudadanos.
