What's the future for Nottingham's John Lewis cafe after Filmore & Union go into administration?

The operators of John Lewis's Nottingham cafe Filmore & Union have gone into administration - resulting in the sale and closure of 19 sites.

The city centre outlet, on the first floor of the department store in intu Victoria Centre, will remain open after being sold to Cofffeesmiths Collective.

A spokeswoman for John Lewis said the cafe, which serves wholesome sandwiches, 'healthy' sweet treats and smoothies would continue to trade as normal following the takeover.

"There are no current plans to change the name of the Filmore & Union cafe," she added.

A further nine cafes and a production kitchen in Yorkshire have also been sold, with the aim of safeguarding 150 jobs.

However, seven shops in Yorkshire, Leeds and Newcastle, plus head office have closed with the loss of 80 jobs.

Phil Pierce, from the administrators FRP Advisory LLP, said: "Filmore & Union is a well-known and popular independent chain with a strong reputation across the North of England. We are pleased to have been able to secure a deal which crucially protects a large number of jobs in the local area and will help to maximise returns for creditors.

"Unfortunately, it has not been possible to secure the sale of all sites, and we are working with the Redundancy Payments Service to provide support for all employees affected at this difficult time."
