What's that driving along the M5? It's a monster!

Police have seen many things that shouldn't really be on the M5 - from sea kayaks to drivers watching documentaries on their phones.

Some of these things need a well-trained eye not spot, such as people not wearing seatbelts or texting at the wheel.

But no-one could have missed this monster lorry driving along the M5, which was stopped by Avon and Somerset Roads Policing Unit.

Officers had thought it looked a bit on the weighty side of things, and it turned out to be 23 per cent over what it should have been.

The driver has been reported for the vehicle being in a dangerous condition and the vehicle was prohibited from the roads.

In a tweet, officers said it was "scary".

The post got a lot of reaction on twitter, with people amazed at the size of it.

It also prompted a few puns, with people asking if the driver had been 'baled' and if it was 'the final straw' for the driver.

Another wondered if officers had to go into a different postcode to take the picture.

Wild weather on the M5 this week blew a sea kayak on the motorway in Gloucestershire where it got stuck under the central reservation barrier.

While an operation on the M5 by Gloucestershire police filmed many HGV drivers flouting the law by driving without seatbelts or using mobile phones - one watching a documentary.

Windy weather continues on Friday with a severe weather warning in place until 9pm.
