'What's really impressed me' - Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt pinpionts Joel Dixon qualities

Ian Evatt believes the belief and confidence goalkeeper Joel Dixon has shown since making the move to Bolton Wanderers and stepping up to League One has been 'first class'.

The 27-year-old made the move to Wanderers over the summer and put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the club.

He has since become first choice stopper at the University of Bolton Stadium this season, playing 15 times in all competitions.

Over the weekend in the draw against Gillingham, Dixon made a crucial double stop when the score was 2-0 to the visitors from Vadaine Oliver.

Wanderers went on to score twice in the closing stages thanks to Dapo Afolayan and Kieran Lee as Bolton came from behind to salvage a point and end a run of three successive losses in League One with a 2-2 draw.

Evatt is very familiar with Dixon after having him as his goalkeeper for two seasons at former club Barrow and has been most impressed with how he feels he has made the step up to playing for Wanderers in League One.

The Bolton manager said: “I’m very impressed but I already know about Joel. I had him for two years at Barrow. I know exactly what he’s capable of.

"What’s really impressed me is it’s a big, big step to come to this football club in League One with our crowds and in big stadia - Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday - with big attendances, to play and do the things that we want him to do.

“His belief, his confidence, has been first class.

"It’s a big, big step from Barrow to playing at Bolton in front of thousands and thousands of fans, but he’s took it in his stride and I think he’s been a credit to himself and a credit to this football club.”
