Opening Friday:

"Silence" (R): Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver are two Jesuit priests searching for their missing mentor in 17th-century Japan in director Martin Scorsese's magnificent exploration of religion and spiritual faith.

"Hidden Figures" (PG-13): Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae play the three black NASA scientists who were instrumental in sending astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

"A Monster Calls" (PG-13): A boy (Lewis MacDougall) befriends a tree monster (Liam Neeson) to help him with his terminally ill mother (Felicity Jones).

"Underworld: Blood Wars" (R): Kate Beckinsale returns to fight vampires and werewolves in the 645th installment of the action-horror franchise.

HOME VIDEO

"Blair Witch" (DVD/Blu-ray): Another group of suicidal young people venture into the haunted woods, recording their experiences with extremely shaky digital cameras.

"Denial" (DVD/Blu-ray): Rachel Weisz stars as the historian forced to defend herself against a lawsuit filed by Holocaust deniers in this fact-based drama.
