Starting from 9.45am, it's preliminary finals weekend for women, under-19s, reserve and first grade teams. In firsts, Cessnock take on Wests at 3.30pm on Saturday, and Wyong play Souths on Sunday at 3.30pm.

The Biscuit Maker Launch

Saturday, 10am, Lambton Park. Bookings @ eventbrite. Must be a Newcastle Library member. Free.

One of Newcastle's favourite illustrators, Liz Anelli, is launching The Biscuit Maker, written by Sue Lawson and illustrated by Anelli, at a community event. Aimed at children aged 3 to 10, attendees can enjoy the story, meet the illustrator, and decorate a pot to take home with a chosen seed from the newly-launched Newcastle Seed Library.

The Mighty Hunter

Saturday and Sunday, Wine Country Drive, Nulkaba

The former Potters Hotel and Brewery is relaunching this weekend. Saturday features tastings, brewery tours, kids activities and music. Sunday features music, petting zoo, and the wedding open day.

Lake Macquarie City Farmers Market

Saturday, 7am to 1pm, Speers Point Park

At Speers Point: Lake Macquarie City Farmers Markets on Saturday from 7am to 1pm.

A perfect morning out for fresh air, fresh coffee, flowers, produce, fish, pastries, small goods, bread, and a bit of live music. The market stalls are placed along the paved walkway through the middle of the park, so access could not be easier. You might even meet a politician if you have something on your mind.

Museum of Art and Culture: Among the featured pieces is work by Andrew Stayan.

Reconnected: a recovery story ends this weekend. Curated from local artists submissions to present a united collection that looks on the brighter and more positive side of life after emerging from COVID-19 lockdown. For the first time artworks are also available for purchase from this exhibition, as a support to artists during these difficult times.

Sky Ball

Saturday, 6pm to 11pm, Dashville Lower Belford

The fifth and final night of the Sky Ball concert series features Sydney's Hedy Blaazer, plus Hunter favourites Georgie Jones, James Thomson and The Dashville Progress Society.
