Art with Ahn Wells
Geoffrey Breen opens Saturday, July 17, from 3pm at Art Systems Wickham. Trees, A Bigger Picture - Beyond the Frame celebrates the beauty of the humble tree and puts it front and centre. Audiences can expect to experience through Breen's drawings and paintings what it's like to stand directly beneath the tree, to feel each one as it grows and moves. Breen says: "Typically, trees have been depicted as 'discrete' objects - viewed as isolated entities. In this exhibition at ASW Gallery, I have presented them as 'enveloping volumes' - experienced from within." 40 Annie St, Wickham; Friday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
Quiet Reflections by Amanda Charge at Timeless Textiles is on now until August 1. Paper and thread are used with sensibility by this artist. Charge says: "I wanted to create art that exuded a gentle and calm demeanour, at odds with the swirling currents of its creation." The works are made using found objects such as sticks and feathers which are imprinted using Japanese inks onto handmade paper. Repetition and chance play a role in the final works and Charge uses this device with intelligence. 90 Hunter St, Newcastle. @timelesstextiles for current hours.
Ordinary Intricacies is on now until August 8 at Watt Space Gallery.
