Coming to Art Systems Wickham in late October, Susan Ryman Whispering Pillars. All Ryman's drawings use coloured pencil on rag paper with a lacquer finish, her subject matter is surreal and other-worldly. Ryman says it's her "inescapable life experience, an awkward eye for the unlikely, reference to my burgeoning collection of specimens and interest in the changing perceptions of the history of human endeavour" that all feed her unique visual signature. She continues "it's the unlikely and often ignored motifs in contemporary Australian life... things hiding in the shadows and seemingly banal objects all find their way into (my) new worlds."

The series was started to connect printmakers during lockdown and has turned into an archive of varied techniques and processes that can be enjoyed by both artists and novices alike.
The MAC Museum's latest 'Art in Your Community' exhibition features digital photography works from Women from the Hunter in Photography or WH!P Collective and will be showcased on the @themacmeseum Instagram account over the next few weeks. WH!P Collective is led by professional photographer, Edwina Richards and includes 23 Newcastle-based women photographers. The group launched on March 7 this year at Newcastle Art Gallery and have since exhibited at Newcastle Art Space and will be exhibiting later this year at Nobby's lighthouse.
The new Leda Gallery at 850 Hunter St, Newcastle West, is now presenting it's debut exhibition, DAWN. Available for viewing from through the ceiling to floor windows are works by Melisah May, Giorgia Bel, Lucas Grogan and Brett Piva.
Curve Gallery has moved into Spring with a 'Spring Garden Window' exhibition including printmaking by Megan Burley, painting by Joanna Darby and sculpture by Patricia Wilson-Adams. Director, Lisa Who says " I hope our window exhibitions brighten up people's day and introduce them to the many talented Newcastle artists that we are exhibiting through lockdown. Our street front gallery keeps us connected to our community."
