What's on in Manchester today? Guide to Manchester Day 2019 in the city centre

Sunday, June 23, is Manchester Day - an annual celebration of the city's history. The event is now in its 10th year and the spectacle brings thousands of people from across the region together.

Those taking part will also march along a parade route, which has been slightly altered this year.

The city's public squares will host a programme of entertainment, food and drink stalls and a market throughout the day.

This year's theme is '10 out of 10', celebrating the carnival's 10th anniversary.

The event, organised by Manchester council and produced by outdoor arts specialists Walk the Plank, brings thousands of people into the city centre to enjoy the festivities.

There's a new route for the parade this year, setting off from Princess Street, near the junction with Canal Street, instead of the usual starting point on Liverpool Road.

From there, it turns left on to Portland Street and then right through St Peter's Square and on to Peter Street, passing landmarks including Manchester Central Library and the Great Northern Warehouse.

The procession will then turn right on to Deansgate before ending just past Blackfriars Street.

See the map above to scope out the best vantage points - the corner of Peter Street and Deansgate, outside the Great Northern Warehouse, is usually a popular spot. An accessible viewing area is marked out half way along Deansgate.
