What's on (and what's off) this New Year's Eve

City of Newcastle is the only Lower Hunter council offering official New Year's Eve events this year.

Port Stephens Council has cancelled its foreshore fireworks, and Wangi Wangi RSL Club's traditional fireworks display is also off.

Private parties at home are limited to 50 people at a time.

The Newcastle program of events includes:

Lambton Park Food Markets

Roving entertainment and children's activities from 3 to 8pm.

Dixon Park Food Markets

Roving entertainment and children's activities from 3 to 8pm in Ocean Street, Merewether.

Richley Reserve Food Markets

Roving entertainment, children's activities and a "sensory zone" for people with disabilities and their families from 10am to 4pm on New Year's Day off Freyberg Street, New Lambton.

Beresfield Pool

Inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment from 10am to 4pm New Year's Day.

Mayfield Pool

Inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment from 10am to 4pm New Year's Day.

Stockton Pool

Inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment from 10am to 4pm New Year's Day.

Wallsend Pool

Inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment from 10am to 4pm New Year's Day.
