DUFFY VERDICT NOT EXPECTED UNTIL APRIL

An Ottawa judge says it will likely be mid-April before he delivers his verdict in the fraud trial of Prince Edward Island Sen. Mike Duffy.

Judge Charles Vaillancourt said Tuesday a date would be set in conjunction with the lawyers.

Duffy's lawyer, Donald Bayne, is wrapping up his arguments Tuesday, after the Crown told the judge Monday that Duffy played fast and loose with both the facts and taxpayer dollars.

Both sides have already submitted hundreds of pages spelling out their lengthy closing arguments regarding the 31 charges of fraud, breach of trust and bribery that Duffy faces.

N.B. NAMES MEMBERS OF COUNCIL ON AGING

The interim head of the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick has been appointed as one of the co-chairs of the province's new council on aging.

Ken McGeorge of Fredericton is among 17 people appointed to the council, which will help develop a strategy aimed at keeping seniors active, healthy and engaged in their communities.

His fellow co-chair is Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard of Dieppe, an associate professor of nursing at the University of Moncton who is also director of the Centre for Aging Research and president of the Canadian Association on Gerontology.

Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers says the council will help the province face a "daunting challenge" -- balancing the needs of an aging population with increasing pressures on the health care system.

Police say no charges are expected to be laid.

Charlottetown police say a traffic stop ended with the seizure of marijuana with a street value of more than $23,000.

He is to appear in provincial court at a later date.

NEW BRUNSWICK RESIDENTS POISED TO WEAR PINK

New Brunswickers are being encouraged to wear pink shirts Wednesday to help promote diversity and foster respect in schools, workplaces and communities.

Education Minister Serge Rousselle says the annual Pink Shirt Day provides a forum for dialogue and a tool to raise awareness about the impact of bullying in any environment aimed at any age.

Pink Shirt Day was first launched in 2007 by two Nova Scotia high school students who encouraged their friends to wear pink jerseys in support of a bullied student.
