On arrival at the campus of Queen Ethelburga's (QE), you are immediately impressed with the care and thought that has gone into providing a stunning environment for everyone who lives, works and studies here to enjoy.
Visitors quickly notice that the students are confident, polite and happy. The inspection report of 2012 stated that: "[students] are confident, articulate and mature young people, eager to learn, with highly developed spiritual, moral, social skills and exceptional cultural understanding." A community atmosphere is tangible and a wide range of age groups, nationalities and cultures co-exist happily together. Our ethos is based on providing learning opportunities to suit different abilities as well as bursaries to give life chances to a wide range of students from differing backgrounds.
Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate Foundation offers its students a vast range of opportunities, enabling them to pursue their individual interests and aspirations. It comprises Chapter House Kindergarten and Prep school, King's Magna middle school and two senior schools in the college and the faculty.
Our four schools are small enough to maintain a family atmosphere, where the heads and their teams know all of their pupils thoroughly. This helps in successfully guiding students through their formative years so that they can truly live by the 'Hill Standard' or school motto" "To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have".
Good education is about building special relationships between teachers and pupils, and among pupils themselves, which enable boys and girls to develop into mature young adults; people who are confident without being arrogant, friendly but not familiar, relaxed but not casual, who have the courage to live by sound moral, social and spiritual values.
Our staff enjoy working with the students at Queen Ethelburga's and believe that each child or young person deserves individual attention in order to achieve their full potential. School inspectors noted that: "The depth of attention given to each individual student sets the expectation for relationships that underpins the excellent relationships between staff and students and amongst the student themselves." Investment in the training and advancement of our staff is vital and we have a flourishing programme of professional development available. This enables staff to take advantage of career progression opportunities within this expanding foundation.
In the last seven years our results have improved year on year and we are ranked among the best in the UK for academic results and success with university entry. We have seen our number of students more than double during this time, and this enables us to offer a wide range of A-level, GCSE and BTEC options in our two senior schools, in addition to a broad and exciting curriculum in our middle and prep schools. With a cosmopolitan mix of day students, UK boarders and international boarders from more than 50 different countries worldwide, QE benefits from a diverse cultural mix of students which enriches the educational experience for all, ensuring all our students are fully prepared for the international opportunities that now await them.
