What's happened to Sunderland 'Til I Die chief executive Martin Bain since series one

Social media is already ablaze with reactions to Sunderland 'Til I Die series two.

The second series of the hit show premiered on Netflix this morning, chronicling Sunderland's first season in League One since their relegation from the Championship, which was documented in the first series.

Following Stewart Donald's takeover of the Black Cats, which was seen at the end of the first series, a whole new group of executives will be seen on screen in the series.

One memorable figure from the first series that will be missing is former CEO Martin Bain, who left the Stadium of Light shortly after Donald's takeover.

Bain spent two seasons at the Black Cats, and reportedly pocketed a £1.9m pay-off for his exit.

His presence is still felt in the second series, though, as it is revealed he was the only person who used a £100,000-a-year cryo-chamber that had been meant for the players.

So what has happened to Bain since his exit from Sunderland?

Bain was out of the game for a year but, in October 2019, was appointed CEO of Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), the company in charge of running the Indian Super League.

“Indian football has progressed rapidly over the last few years,” Bain said after his appointment. “The world has taken notice of India and the potential it holds.

“I am very eager at the prospect of what Indian football can achieve under the guidance of Mrs. Nita Ambani [FSDL’s chairperson] and I am immensely happy to be presented with this opportunity to work on her vision for the sport in the country.”

Prior to arriving at Sunderland, Bain had held CEO positions at Rangers and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
