What's behind Turkey's failed coup?

After a violent night that saw bomb blasts, air strikes and gunfire across Turkey - hundreds of people have been killed or injured.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his government is now in control and the attempted coup has failed.

The president also warns those responsible, will pay a "heavy price".

Many arrests have followed, some soldiers have surrendered but the president wants his supporters to be vigilant.

At the heart of this failed coup is the role played by Turkey's people.

Thousands came out in support of their democratically elected government.

But what does the failed coup mean for democracy in Turkey?
