What's acceptable when it comes to a drive-thru?

I SOMETIMES wonder what the future holds for us as human beings.

Assuming Darwin was right about evolution, might people ever lose the ability to use their legs? Might we end up with stumps where legs used to be? This thought crossed my mind as I sat in a coffee drive-thru, waiting on my large latte with an extra shot.

What possessed me to be so lazy I cannot quite fathom. I walk about 50 miles a week, mostly to keep fit, so parking up and walking into a store presents me with no mobility problems.

Nonetheless, there is something very self-indulgent about not having to get out of my driver’s seat to get my fix of caffeine. I did have a momentary issue when it came to paying for my coffee, though, as I have a loyalty card on my mobile phone.

The law says I am not to touch my mobile while driving or I will face a potential fine and penalty points. I hate these seemingly grey areas. I was parked, engine off, so figured I was OK to get my loyalty points. Who knows?!

My mind then wandered, as it does when you’re over 50, to what other drive-thru services have I seen and, far more entertainingly for me, what should be offered as a drive-thru? I have seen the drive-thru post office, the Greggs and the bank, which I always thought was asking for trouble.

Most of all, I would like to see a drive-thru laundry, where I could drop off all my wrongness and collect it a couple of days later all neat and ironed. That would be a winner.

I believe that in America it is possible to visit a drive-thru off-licence, which is wrong on so many levels, get married and even attend a funeral. Mourners drive past the coffin to pay their respects, or disrespects in my view.

Why are cars so addictive that we almost refuse to leave them? I can honestly say save the coffin when I die and bury me with my car.
