What Russell Martin 'loved' about Mikey Moore's Rangers debut

Russell Martin says he loved Mikey Moore's intent with the ball as he made his first Rangers start on Saturday evening.

The young winger got the nod in the Premier Sports Cup against Alloa Athletic and helped set up Nedim Bajrami for his side's first in a 4-2 win.

"He showed glimpses," said Martin of Moore's performance. "He's not played at all, really. So, he's had a couple of weeks here now. It's just training. So he's been chomping at the bit.

"You saw some moments and you also saw some moments like he's a young, he's a young boy, but we have to keep him free and let him express himself. It's not always going to come off, but I loved his intent with the ball. And we need more of that for sure.

"People are not afraid to lose the ball, risk the ball, run at players, and it'll keep getting better. So I'm really pleased with that."

Thelo Aasgaard was also handed his Rangers debut last night, as striker Hamza Igamane made a long-awaited return from injury.

Martin said: "Thelo, I think you can see what he'll bring, the physical profile, the way he takes the ball, the way he moves.

"And I really liked Hamza's energy when he came on. Hamza, he's he can do things that other players can't. Sometimes it looks a bit mad, but if we can get him to make decisions a bit more consistently, I think he'll he'll really help us."
