What rules could be in place when pubs, bars and restaurants reopen ahead of Boris Johnson announcement today

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to lay out his plan for lifting lockdown restrictions later today (Monday, February 22).

The "road map" will lay out key dates, including the earliest dates we can expect restrictions to ease and for hospitality venues such as bars, restaurants and pubs to reopen.

Very few details have been confirmed just yet, though schools are expected to be the priority when it comes to reopening.

When pubs and restaurants do reopen, and that could be a while off yet, they're expected to have a number of rules and regulations in place to do so.

During the previous lockdowns, the hospitality industry had to deal with a barrage of new rules and regulations in order to stay operational.

From a substantial meal, to rules on household mixing and curfews, going for a drink at the weekend became much more complicated.

Recent reports claim that the new roadmap could see us "back to normal" by July, with a relaxation of rules coming at "four-weekly intervals".

If this is the case, pubs, bars and restaurants could be open by early May, with a maximum of two households to be sat together indoors and the rule-of-six continuing to apply outdoors.

Whenever pubs do reopen at last, it has already been widely reported that previous restrictions, such as the 10pm curfew and "substantial meal" requirement, will be scrapped.

It's also likely that 'Covid secure' measures would remain in place when they are allowed to serve customers again.

The Prime Minister will lay out his roadmap in an address to the House of Commons at 3.30pm and lead a Downing Street news conference at 7pm.
