What Roy Hodgson has said about Christian Benteke after his display for Palace against Arsenal

Roy Hodgson has been full of praise for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke after he scored his first goal of the season against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Belgian striker scored the opening goal in Palace's 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, ending almost one year without a goal for the Eagles in a competitive fixture.

Benteke admitted himself that it had been a "tough year" for him as he battled back from injury problems and a loss of form, but after his man of the match display in north London, his manager was pleased to see him back in the side, and back on the scoresheet.

Every word Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson just said on Wilfried Zaha and Arsenal win

"Christian has had almost two seasons while I have been at the club that have been disturbed by injuries," said Hodgson, speaking to Palace TV .

"He has been injured and then come back and then it hasn't gone well for him and he has been injured again, but it is good for him that he has had a run of two or three games.

"This was the second one he has started and he has come on as a substitute in a few games and did well, so he is really finding his feet and playing, I suppose, like Christian Benteke should play, because that's the player he is.

"His work in tandem with Wilf [Zaha] was truly praiseworthy."

The former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker will now hope to add to his first goal of the season when the Eagles host Everton at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
