Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Tuesday, September 1.
How Rodrigo De Paul can get the best out of Rodrigo Moreno
Having already secured Helder Costa and Illan Meslier on permanent deals following their successful loan spells, the Whites added considerable quality over the weekend with Rodrigo Moreno and Robin Koch arriving for a combined £40million.
But Marcelo Bielsa and the Leeds board have no intention of stopping there. According to The Guardian, Bielsa is determined to land Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, although the Italians have told Leeds it will take a bid of around £30m to secure the 26-year-old’s signature.
De Paul, who joined Udinese from Valencia in 2016, has been one of Serie A’s most consistent attacking midfielders over the last four seasons and has become a regular for Argentina after making his international debut in October 2018, appearing 14 times for Lionel Scaloni’s side in 2019 as they finished third in Copa America.
But what would De Paul offer Bielsa’s men? Our man Matthew Gault has taken a data-led look at the South American.
Orta outlines Leeds’ next steps in the transfer market
Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has stressed that his side must be 'clever' with their approach to the rest of the transfer window after completing the signings of Rodrigo and Robin Koch.
Forward Rodrigo arrived for a club record fee of £27million from Valencia on Saturday morning, with Koch following that evening as his £13million move from Freiburg was completed.
They join Illan Meslier and Helder Costa who completed their permanent moves to Leeds this summer and Jack Harrison who has signed on for a third loan season as Marcelo Bielsa's side look to strengthen ahead of their return to the Premier League.
A host of young talent has also been snapped up, headlined by England youth international Joe Gelhardt, and speaking after Rodrigo's move was confirmed, Orta shed more light on Leeds' strategy in the transfer market this summer.
Derby interested in Roberts
Derby County are interested in signing Tyler Roberts from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
That is according to a report in The Times, who are reporting the Rams are monitoring the 21-year-old following Leeds’ £27 million capture of Valencia’s Rodrigo.
Roberts has played in a number of positions across the front line for Leeds, scoring four goals in 23 league appearances last season.
