‘What restaurant allowed that????’: London women get drinks sent to their table by ‘the gentlemen.’ Then they see the bill

Presumably, the etiquette surrounding sending drinks to someone is the same wherever you go. However, for a creator based in London, things turned out a little differently.

The viral clip, which has amassed 1.1 million views, consisted of content creator Aleks Jevtic (@aleks_jevtic) putting her head in her hands at the table of what looks like a pretty swanky restaurant. Accompanying text read: “When the drinks from the ‘gentleman’ are on your bill.”

Usually, when a man sends over a drink to a woman, the fact that they’re paying for it is the whole point. It’s designed to be a compliment and to gauge their interest.

So, expecting the woman to pay for a drink that she didn’t even ask for will probably have the complete opposite effect.

Jevtic didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.

‘What did you do in this situation?’

“What did you do in this situation?” one commenter asked. “I’ve had it in NYC. Didn’t order, didn’t drink, but it was on my bill.”

A second commenter dubbed this action “insane,” remarking how “chivalry is dead.”

A third commenter predicted that they’d turn into “the Karen of the century” if this happened to them, while a fourth user kept it simple.

“I didn’t order it, I’m not paying for it,” they wrote. “This seems like the only case over which I’d be calling the manager over.”

A fifth questioned how a practice like this could even exist, as they asked, “How is this possible? I have been a very high-end server. This isn’t possible.”

Elsewhere, commenters were also suspicious of the restaurant, with a sixth arguing, “I’m just thinking about how exploitable it is for restaurants. You just dress one of your waiters as a ‘gentleman’, he orders something for the ‘ladies,’ and they have to pay extra ‘just because’.”

“Interesting,” a seventh noted. “Because what if the restaurant does this regularly to scam diners? Like, telling people someone ordered it for them, then charging them instead of the person who actually ‘ordered'”

Man goes viral after providing TikToker with ‘sip’ of drink

If you want to get someone’s attention, but don’t want to pay for a whole drink, there might be a hidden solution: providing them with a ‘sip’ of yours.

TikToker Ansa Edim (@ansa_____) went viral after a man deployed this unorthodox-but-cost-effective method on her.

Sharing the thimble of drink with viewers, Edim wrote, “This is a first: a man had the bartender send me a sip of his drink instead of buying me one.”

At the time of writing, this video has amassed 555,900 views. So, while some might call it cheap, it’s actually a good way to draw attention — and at least, that way, nobody will have to pay extra.
