What reportedly was the final straw for the Jaguars and Jalen Ramsey

A moment came when Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan knew he had to trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Jaguars had been able to tolerate Ramsey’s trade demands and off-field antics into the 2019 season. But it became clear the cornerback didn’t want to play for Jacksonville.

Ramsey suffered a mysterious back injury during the season, but seemed prepared to play in Week 6 on Oct. 13 against the New Orleans Saints. Three doctors cleared Ramsey to play, and the star cornerback had a discussion with Khan about playing in the game, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But Ramsey sat out of the game anyway.

Here’s what Schefter reported on the Jaguars’ decision to trade Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams following that absence from the game day roster:

Khan was highly disappointed when he didn’t (play in Week 6), league sources told ESPN. That, according to sources, was the final straw. After Ramsey missed that game, Khan gave the green light to his football operations team — Tom Coughlin and Dave Caldwell — to strike a deal if they could find a great one.

They found a pretty darn good deal. The Rams offered two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder in exchange for Ramsey.

While the back injury held Ramsey out for three weeks in Jacksonville, he was a full participant at L.A.’s practice on Friday and coach Sean McVay said Ramsey will play for the Rams in Week 7. It does not seem like a coincidence that Ramsey’s back injury suddenly healed after just a few days in L.A.
