What Reiss Nelson has done after Mikel Arteta's Arsenal transfer admission

Reiss Nelson may have just given the biggest indication yet that is about to leave Arsenal.

The 21-year-old, who has been at the Gunners since 2007, played just nine times in all competitions throughout the 2020/21 season, with the youngster clearly not in Mikel Arteta's first-team plans.

Nelson looked a really promising prospect when breaking through the Hale End academy, but injury problems have slowed his development somewhat, coupled with a lack of senior experience in the Arsenal team.

The former Hoffenheim loanee is now being linked with a move away from the club he has been at for around 14 years and football.london reported back in May that he is set for crunch talks regarding his future at some point over the summer.

Now, according to The Express, Nelson has placed his north London home up for sale, which suggests that he could be looking for a new chapter in his career.

football.london understands that Greek club Olympiacos have expressed their interest in signing the Arsenal winger, with their interest going back as early as the 2019/20 campaign.

Whether or not they will make a move for Nelson this summer remains to be seen, but this latest development suggests he could be on his way out of the Emirates in the near future.

Arteta has previously shared his sympathy for Nelson and the lack of game time he has been given during his reign as Gunners boss.

“We ended up with a large squad at the end of the transfer market,” Arteta said in January.

“We had a few plans in mind with Reiss [Nelson]. One of them was as well to send him on loan to get more minutes because of the competition we have up front.

“The reality is he has been really good in training. He wants to stay here. He wants to fight for his place.”

If Nelson does indeed leave Arsenal, then Arteta and Edu may look to bring another winger to the club in time for next season, with some names already being linked.

Raheem Sterling is a player who is reportedly of interest to the Gunners, as well as his Manchester City team-mate Riyad Mahrez, with the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Willian already at the club.
