What Reiner Jesus said about playing in England after Arsenal 'contact' player's father

Arsenal are reported to have Reiner Jesus' father over a potential move to north London.

17-year-old has impressed since making his debut for Flamengo in July and is already to be thought to be on the radar of some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Global powerhouses such as Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City , Real Madrid and Juventus are all interested while Everton are believed to have held talks over a possible January deal.

However, Mundo Deportivo have reported that Arsenal have tried to steal an early march on their rivals by contacting Reinier's father in an attempt to convince him to move to the club.

The teenagers asking price is understood to have doubled in recent months, with Flamengo having been looking for just £17m in the summer.

Of course, the Gunners struck a deal for Gabriel Martinelli in the summer which they're hoping could work in their favour.

The Brazilian already looks like an exciting prospect having netted seven times for Arsenal in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup this season.

Having moved to the Emirates from Brazilian side Ituano in the summer and has enjoyed a fine start to life in England.

Reinier only signed a new deal with Flamengo this month and it is believed they have inserted a release clause of £60m (€70m) in the contract.

Some reports have suggested that Atletico Madrid were also in contact over a potential deal but were put off by the Brazilian club's asking price.

However, it is clear Reinier is keen to move to Europe in the future, and said: "It’s an honour that Atlético are interested in me because they are a huge club.

“It’s another honour to know that one of the biggest clubs in the world is watching me.

"But I’m a Flamengo player and my objective is to keep doing a good job here to win many titles in Brazil.”
