What Reece James told Ben Chilwell after scoring twice for Chelsea against Newcastle

Chelsea have made a brilliant start to the Premier League season and currently sit three points clear at the top of the table - and Reece James and Ben Chilwell have been key to that form.

Saturday saw the Blues beat Newcastle United 3-0 at St. James' Park, a match in which James scored twice. The weekend before saw both players find the net in the 7-0 thrashing of Norwich City too.

In 10 Premier League matches, the pair have contributed seven goals, with James even the club's top Premier League goalscorer.

Chelsea were back in action against Malmo in the Champions League on Tuesday night and, prior to kick-off, Chilwell told BT Sport about the form of both himself and James, hinting that a competition is brewing between the pair.

"Reece was quick to tell me he’s top goalscorer after that game," the left-back said with a laugh.

"I think the manager has brought that out in mine and Reece's game. Especially scoring more goals and getting in attacking areas. We can be more of a threat in the box and that’s something the manager pushed me and Reece on in training to improve on.

"When you’ve got a world-class squad and only 11 can play, what makes a strong group is that everyone sticks together. When people do get the opportunity to play it’s about showing the manager that you think you should be playing every week."

The comments come after it was claimed that James was one of the best right-backs in the world.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright made the claim, particularly praising James' ability to play on both his right and left foot.

"He is easily one of the best right-backs in the world at the minute," Wright claimed on Match of the Day.

"Left foot, right foot, he can do it, that was unbelievable [his first goal], and his second, he has hit that full-on, bam, that is just fantastic accuracy and fantastic finishing."
