What RB Leipzig did to Jose Mourinho that no one has ever done before with Tottenham defeat

Tottenham are out of the Champions League at the round-of-16 stage after falling to defeat to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Jose Mourinho's team went into the second leg of the tie looking to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the home leg.

However, after an encouraging opening few minutes, things got harder for Spurs when Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer found a way past Tottenham skipper Hugo Lloris from the edge of the area.

That goal though still meant that two goals would see Spurs through to the next stage, but it all changes 11 minutes later when the same player again beat Lloris at the near post to double the German side's lead on the night.

Jose Mourinho: Bergwijn unlikely to play this season

That is how the score would stay until three minutes from the end when second-half substitute Emil Forsberg scored within 30 seconds of entering the field to put the tie beyond doubt.

Tottenham will now have to concentrate on qualifying for the competition again next season through their finishing position in the Premier League.

Spurs are currently in eighth place in the table, seven points behind fourth place Chelsea.

However, if they want to close that gap, they will have to improve their recent form.

As reported by OptaJoe, Under Mourinho, Spurs have now gone six games in all competitions without a win, drawing two and losing four.

That run is the Portuguese's longest winless run in his entire managerial career.

The run also included an exit from the FA Cup, meaning that Tottenham now have no silverware to chase this season.

Spurs are back in action when they take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday in a game which could be crucial in deciding the Champions League places at the end of the season.
