What Rangers coach Michael Beale has said about his future plans amid intense Cardiff City links

Cardiff City's search for a new manager is very much in its early stages right now.

Indeed, the focus in the capital at the moment is likely to be on interim boss Steve Morison's bid to halt a disastrous run of form that has seen the Bluebirds go down to eight straight defeats.

Morison himself hasn't been completely ruled out of the running by insiders, but the club is certainly casting its eye further afield in its bid to find a successor to Mick McCarthy.

There appears to be genuine enthusiasm for former Chelsea assistant Jody Morris, but he's by no means the only name on the radar at the moment.

Indeed, one of the most intriguing names currently in the mix is Rangers assistant Michael Beale.

Beale has widely been heralded as the brains behind Steven Gerrard's revival of the Scottish giants, and counts footballing visionary Johan Cruyff as one of his biggest coaching influences.

However, the lack of experience as a senior boss is likely to be a source of some unease for the City board, who will have to decide whether they feel he can make the step up and successfully lead a side currently scrapping towards the bottom of the Championship.

The man himself is certainly interested in the idea of being a number one - but admits he's in no rush to make that ambition a reality.

Speaking about his future plans, he told the Transfer Ground Guru podcast recently: "It’s one hundred percent the aim, I don’t have a timeline because I am very happy.

“I feel, under Steven, like I’m a head coach because he gives the staff so much, we all coach the team.

“So I don’t feel the need or the urge to rush off and be a manager."

Should they conclude that Beale is the right man, those comments suggest Cardiff may have some convincing to do.

Cardiff is certainly an attractive job, but Rangers isn't the sort of club a coach leaves without good reason, and Ibrox is clearly a really good fit for Beale at the moment.

Perhaps concerningly for Cardiff, Beale himself has already offered up some idea on what his next step could be - and it doesn't currently seem to involve the Bluebirds.

“I have lots of aims, one is to be a manager in the UK but ultimately be a manager overseas because that is my dream," he said.

“I feel like I am only about five percent into my career, I feel it has only really started in the last two of three years.

“One hundred percent I want to be a manager one day but I have a very unique idea of where I want to be a manager.

“I don’t just want to be a manager in the Football League, I want to be a manager within Europe and in different countries.

"I am just exploring and learning with this game.”

Whether he believes that learning process can continue with Cardiff remains to be seen.
