What Raheem Sterling has said about Mikel Arteta amid latest Arsenal transfer links

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the contract situation of Raheem Sterling, according to the Daily Star.

The report states that Mikel Arteta is interested in bringing the Manchester City forward to north London and he is on the Gunners' transfer list, with the England international having less than 20 months to run on his current contract at the Etihad.

Sterling, who previously worked with Arteta when the Spaniard was an assistant coach for the Citizens between 2016 and 2019, has been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s success in Manchester, and at just 26, he already has three Premier League titles, five Carabao Cup winners’ medals and an FA Cup to his name.

He was also one of the main contributors in England’s road to the final of Euro 2020, scoring three goals in the seven games he played.

A signing of his quality would certainly be a big statement from Arsenal and given what the Englishman has said about Arteta in the past, it may be one worth pursuing.

As per the Mirror, speaking in October of last year, the City star said: "(Arteta is) a person that had a lot of say here (at Man City). The manager trusted him here and he had a lot of influence on the players here and the team as well.

"So, I knew once he went into Arsenal that it would be a great opportunity for him but also he would definitely implement what he wanted to bring in.

"And he's a person that will put his foot down and not let things slide as you can see with the boys at Arsenal. They know if they don't run they are most likely not going to play.”

If Sterling is indeed eager for a new challenge, you’d have to think that it’s likely that Arteta will look at the possibility of completing a transfer.
