What Public Health chiefs said about Nottinghamshire in Tier 3 after lockdown

Public Health bosses have responded to queries about whether Nottingham and Nottinghamshire will remain in Tier 3 once lockdown is over.

The tier system for localised measures was brought in across the country from October 14, and while the city and county were initially placed in Tier 2 - the high alert level - Nottingham and Nottinghamshire were later moved into Tier 3.

But just a day later, on October 31, the Government announced a national lockdown that would supersede all current tier restrictions for at least 28 days between November 5 and December 2.

In the latest briefing with Public Health directors for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire on Friday (November 6) bosses responded to questions about where this would leave the public after lockdown.

Alison Challenger, Public Health director in the city, said: "We don't know yet.

"The tier system will be brought back and there will be some form of local management.

"Discussions are taking place on the escalation or de-escalation of areas, but it really all depends on lockdown. Any changes are all speculation right now and our focus should be on sticking to the measures."

"We want to work towards having no additional restrictions," Jonathan Gribbin, Public Health director for Nottinghamshire said.

"That is only going to come by following lockdown rules".

The latest figures show cases are declining after an extreme spike between September and October, but there are still concerns the rates are "too high" and there are particular worries on the over 60s age group, where people are more likely to be hospitalised if they contract Covid-19.
