Mauricio Pochettino remained coy on his future and he walked away when asked about Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's game against Manchester City in the Champions League, the MEN revealed that United had failed in their initial enquiry to appoint Pochettino, but regardless, club officials remain encouraged that he could join the club midseason.
It's understood that Pochettino is unsettled in Paris and that he would be open to a return to the Premier League to manage United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked on Sunday and United duly announced that they would appoint an interim successor, however, Old Trafford chiefs are long-term admirers of Pochettino and they believe he could be keen on taking the permanent position.
Pochettino refused to be drawn into speculation surrounding his future earlier this week but he was questioned again on Wednesday.
PSG lost 2-1 to City in the Champions League and Pochettino was quizzed on the links to United after the game. In one interview with Canal Plus, Pochettino was asked if he would still be in charge when the knockout stages of the competition begin in February.
Pochettino laughed at the question and said ‘thank you, ciao’ before walking away.
PSG appointed Pochettino in January but he failed to win the Ligue 1 title last season and he's yet to win a major trophy.
