What Princess Charlotte will be called at school as her first day looms

Thousands of kids across Bristol will be stepping through their schools gates for the first time this week.

While the day presents a number of challenges for most children, there is perhaps only one youngster in the country who has to consider what name she should tell her peers.

Princess Charlotte will join the Reception class at Thomas's Battersea, south west London, on Thursday.

Her big brother Prince George is already a pupil at the £19,287-a-year private school, so he'll be there to look out for her.

But when Charlotte sits down at her new desk and listens to the register for the first time - what will she actually be called?

Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, and her official title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

Both of these are a bit of a mouthful, and we can't imagine the kids in the playground or her teachers using them.

It's likely that Charlotte will follow in the footsteps as her older brother and other members of the Royal Family and use her parents' titles as her surname - Cambridge, according to our sister paper the Mirror.

She will probably be known as Charlotte Cambridge to her class, in a similar style to her brother who is believed to be George Cambridge.

Her dad William and uncle Prince Harry did the same, using Charles's title - Wales - as their surname.

As well as using the name at school they both used it during their military careers.

Thomas's offers a varied curriculum, including religious studies, computing and ballet.
