What price the eccentric hoarder's house in Toxteth went for

A three storey family home previously owned by an eccentric book collector has been successfully sold at auction.

The four-bed detached town house on Hartington Road in Toxteth had caused a stir after photos appeared online showing every room filled with books from floor to ceiling.

The floors, shelves, and every other available space were packed with tomes and paperbacks, leaving no room for everyday living.

Some rooms were so cluttered with books it would be impossible to cross from one end to the other.

Even the bathtub was completely surrounded by volumes piled high, threatening to come down like an avalanche if disturbed.

However, there's no doubt that should the piles of hoarded books be removed from the property, it would make an attractive family home of considerable size and character.

Revive Sales, Lettings and Auctions who managed the sale described the house as: "[A] three story period home which is in need of full refurbishment. This property has lots of potential due to its sheer size.

"Situated in the highly sought after and popular residential location and being served by a wealth of amenities and surrounded by plenty of green space.

The three-storey home was listed on the online property auction on October 9 for £125,000, with any bids over £135,000 being accepted.

The auction ended at 2pm on Thursday, October 28 having received 112 bids from eight different interested parties.

And despite the initial listing being £125,000, the eccentric three storey former hoarder's home finally sold for an impressive £213,000.
