What potential FIFA rule change could mean for Hearts and Hibs on-loan stars

FIFA are considering a key transfer rule change which could have implications for both Hearts and Hibs.

The football governing body has set up a working group to consider amendments to "player registration periods", meaning loan stars at both clubs could see their stay extended if the campaign was to continue.

However the amendment still has to be discussed with member associations, clubs, leagues and players before anything is finalised.

Hearts currently have Toby Sibbick, Ryotaro Meshino and Joel Pereira on-loan. Sibbick and Pereira are due to return to their clubs on May 31 while Meshino is due to stay until June 30.

Hibs have Marc McNulty, Greg Docherty, Jason Naismith and Stephane Omeonga on-loan at the moment.

The proposed rule change is being considered along with potential changes to transfer window dates.

A FIFA spokesperson told Sky Sports: "On March 18 the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided to establish a FIFA-Confederations Working Group in response to COVID-19.

"This Working Group will assess the need for amendments or temporary dispensations to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players' to protect contracts for both players and clubs and adjusting player registration periods.

"This work has already started and will be conducted in consultation with all key stakeholders, including confederations, member associations, clubs, leagues and players."
