What Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did straight after the FA Cup final amid Arsenal contract talk

Arsenal hope to tie Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new long-term contract, with an offer set to be made to the Gunners captain.

The Gabon international underlined his importance to the club with a match-winning display in Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Aubameyang netted a goal in each half to seal a 2-1 win over Frank Lampard's side and guarantee Europa League qualification for next season.

Despite previously stating that he is happy at the Emirates, Aubameyang is still yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

And speaking after his heroics at Wembley, the 31-year-old refused to comment on the speculation.

"I am really not thinking about this now I really just want to enjoy with the guys and take the trophy now," the Arsenal captain told BT Sport.

"I think everyone gave their best for the team today, we deserved it.

"The journey has been long, great evening, I will enjoy all night for sure, I had this inspiration."

football.london understands Arsenal are set to make a formal contract offer to Aubameyang imminently, with the striker reportedly demanding a three-year deal worth £250,000-a-week.

It is uncertain how long it could take to reach an agreement, as according to German outlet Suddeutsche Zeitung, the Arsenal striker left the country and departed for France for a holiday after the cup final.

Gunners head coach Arteta has already reiterated his desire to keep Aubameyang at the club, and urged the striker to become a legend in north London by staying.

Arteta said: “We always had incredible strikers at this club and Auba deserves to be named and compared with the big names.

"By winning trophies he will be closer to that the longer he stays there. Hopefully we can have him for longer.

“The biggest problem was to convince him to work the way he was working.

"He was going to get more reward and more respect, and our respect would go to admiration. Admiration from his team-mates and the people who have been with him and also from the fans.

“It [goal scoring] is the most difficult thing in football, he makes it look simple.”
