What Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did immediately after Arsenal's shock Europa League exit

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang went from hero to zero in the space of seven minutes as Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League.

In minute 113 the Gunners captain was the toast of the Emirates Stadium as well as supporters as his brilliant acrobatic effort brought about the equaliser against Olympiacos.

At that moment, the north London were going through to the round of 16 stage.

Arteta believes Aubameyang doesn't need titles to be considered world-class

However, there was to be not one, but two late stings in the tale - both of which went against Mikel Arteta's side.

Firstly, Youssef El-Arabi put the visitors back ahead on the night - and most importantly ahead on away goals - as the hosts failed to clear their lines from a corner and the 33-year-old nipped in between David Luiz and Sokratis to find the net.

Despite that goal coming in minute 119, there was still time for one chance for Arsenal and it fell to the player who has scored more goals than any player across the entire squad this season.

But Aubameyang couldn't tuck away an easy chance from close range and with that the Gunners' hopes of reaching back-to-back Europa League finals were dashed.

And the Gabon international was visibly affected by the miss.

As seen in the images below, as soon as the final whistle blew in north London, Aubameyang slumped to the turf near the centre circle with his head in his hands.

The first Gunners player to come over to the him was vice-captain Hector Bellerin.

Aubameyang did speak to the media after the game and addressed his miss.

"It's very disappointing. What can I say? It's very hard and tough," Aubameyang explained to BT Sport. "It was a tough game again. The last minute goal was unlucky for us and that's it.

"I don't even know, I feel very, very bad. That can happen. I don't know how I missed this chance. I was tired and had some cramps but it's not an excuse. I have to score this goal. It cannot happen."
