What Pep Guardiola said about James Maddison as Manchester United and Man City links intensify

Manchester United and Manchester City could be set to renew their rivalry in the transfer market by moving for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The England Under-21 international has excelled in his maiden campaign in the Premier League, scoring seven goals and contributing a further seven assists in 36 appearances.

That has seen the 22-year-old become one of the hottest properties within English football, with United and City both among those mooted to be interested in his services.

Maddison has earned plenty of praise following his performances for the Foxes this term and the boyhood United fan was labelled as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola after City’s 1-0 victory over Brendan Rodgers’ side last month.

“They’re so dangerous, Maddison is an incredible player, Tielemans too. They want to play. I just didn’t expect them to defend so deep. It was tough to attack them,” Guardiola said after the match.

Tielemans, who spent the second-half of the campaign on loan with Leicester, is now back at parent club Monaco and is also tipped for a lucrative transfer this summer.

However, it is Maddison that could command the biggest fee and all eyes will be on the former Norwich City man during the U21 European Championships this summer.
