What Pep Guardiola has told Man City chairman about when he will leave the club

Pep Guardiola says he will leave Manchester City if performances and results do not meet the high standards the club have set in recent years.

Guardiola has helped transform City into back-to-back Premier League winners and they became the first team to win the domestic treble last season.

City have won seven of the last eight trophies on offer domestically under Guardiola, and are looking to become only the second team to win three Premier League titles in a row.

Standing in their way are Liverpool, who have made a flawless start to the season and have opened up an early eight-point lead at the top of the table.

City have been below-par, but have still recorded emphatic victories at West Ham and against Watford, and, having clawed back  a seven-point deficit last season, the title race is far from over.

But should City's form under Guardiola drop to a level that sees them failing to challenge for the title or make progress in the Champions League, Guardiola has told chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak he will step down.

According to the Sun, Guardiola has spoken in a new book, 'Pep’s City: The  Making  of a Superteam’, about the understanding he has with the chairman.

The extract reads: “He knows I’d step aside if things weren’t going to plan.

“I’ll give everything to avoid that and make every effort to move things forward. No coasting.”

Guardiola has two years remaining on his current contract, which would see him stay at City longer than either of his previous clubs, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
