What Pep Guardiola has said on Champions League heartbreak against Spurs as Man City eye treble

Manchester City boss has admitted that it took him and his players time to recover from their "devastating" defeat against Tottenham in the Champions League this season.

City lost out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Spurs , with Mauricio Pochettino's men progressing on away goals after a 4-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium last month.

The second leg was packed full of drama, with City's Raheem Sterling netting in the closing stages of the game, only to see his effort disallowed, with Spurs progressing as a result.

And on the eve of the FA Cup final against Watford, when City will be hoping to become the first side to win a domestic treble in England, Guardiola has been reflecting on that defeat and how it spurred his team on in the Premier League title race against Liverpool.

"Yes, this time it did take a little bit [to recover]. Two and a half days later we had Spurs again in the league, it was tough," he told the BBC .

The 12 Spurs players fans want to see depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the transfer window

"It was incredible to see 60,000 fans enjoying getting through to the semi-finals of the Champions League and in one second you are dropped. You pass through joy to be devastated.

"You are thinking, 'no this cannot have happened, it is not possible'. I could not say to the players, 'forget it'. I told them 'live with the hurt, it is good and live with the situation for as long as possible'. We have to accept it - sometimes you win when you don't deserve it, sometimes you lose, it is life. Life is not easy, life does not come to you how you want, it happens.

Harry Redknapp's ominous warning about Man City as he expresses concern for Watford in cup final

"Football is incredible emotions, when you are in the moment you have to run and celebrate. I would do it again and again. How we reacted, beating Tottenham, Manchester United and Burnley, this team is incredible."
