What Pep Guardiola has previously said about Celtic-linked Jahmai Simpson-Pusey

Pep Guardiola's previous praise of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is exactly what Celtic will want to hear as they pursue a deal for the young Manchester City central defender.

The Parkhead club have reportedly made a loan offer for Simpson-Pusey, who made his first English Premier League appearance for City back in November 2024.

The youngster started and played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss away to Brighton and Hove Albion.

"Normally the young lads, they must come in with support from the team, with Rodri in front of them, right? With the best Kyle [Walker], and defenders, and now we support him.

"Now he’s playing in a position that is difficult for him but he performed unbelievable.

"We have a central defender to help us for the future, for the next years. I’m really pleased. Always there is good news when the situation goes bad, and this is one of them."

Brendan Rodgers already has the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty, Dane Murray and Stephen Welsh available to him in the centre of defence, although he appears keen to bolster his options before the end of the summer transfer window.
