What Pep Guardiola has banned his Man City stars from doing in Premier League title chase

Pep Guardiola revealed there was ‘not one drop’ of celebration from his FA Cup finalists with the Quad still on.

Gabriel Jesus headed Manchester City into next month’s Wembley showpiece.

But with the Carabao Cup winners’ Champions League quarter-final at Spurs tomorrow, Guardiola wants his title chasers to stay booze-free.

He said: “It’s really good but we don’t have too much time to tell ourselves ‘Oh, it’s so good. How nice is everything’.

“The only focus right now is: Don’t drink one drop of beer or alcohol. Rest, eat good, regeneration the day after tomorrow and prepare the game against one of the best teams in all terms in the Premier League and Europe when they had six days to prepare and we had two-and-a-half.

“Yeah, we won 22 of the last 23 so it’s not bad. Of course, if we want to be in contention in all competitions you have to make these kind of numbers. It’s the same with Liverpool in the Premier League.”

City now play twice a week for the rest of April. Guardiola was forced to replace Kyle Walker - fortunate not to be sent off after clashing with Ali Jahanbaksh - at half time.

But the City boss maintained big clubs cope with the problems piling up for him as the business end of the season approaches.

“The big clubs are what count in these situations: not complaining,” said the Spaniard.

“Saturday was so tough for many reasons - for many, many reasons - and we overcame it. The players know what I mean and that is the point.

“The big clubs don’t go there, and here or whatever saying ‘no, we lose for that (reason)’, or ‘we didn’t play for that (reason)’. We know the reason we didn’t play quite excellent, we know it and the situation is a tough situation we have.

“Every day we lose players. I don’t know if Kyle Walker will be fit. We are what we are but you know, when you play this amount of games in all competitions because when you win the Carabao Cup you play a lot of games before and the other teams are out.

“So that’s normal. I remember with Barcelona I played a final in the Champion League against United in Roma and in the back four were three players, normally important players, who were injured.

“When you make this kind of run you have to handle that and we are going to try and do it again on Tuesday.”
